How is audio quality on Raspberry 3

For the RPI and RPI2 the quality was not really that usable for audio applications, so a lot of people used HifiBerry DACs or USB Sound adapters.

Afaik, the reasons for this were intereferences due to USB devices, network adapters and so on paired with rather cheap on-board audio.

Has anyone already tried the RPI3 with audio applications?
Are there any hardware changes on the new version that have effects on the on-board audio quality?

No, no audio changes. They (the raspberry pi foundation) are actively working on firmware improvements which will benefit all models but they are not complete yet. Apparently the improvement is significant. But for the time being, USB and HAT audio devices are the best solution.
