Over at Volumio , someone has created a smartphone app that allows me to use all the niffty search functions of Spotify then send the playlist I want to Volumio. Its pretty neet and very handy.
Could equivalent functionality be done for Musicbox?

I think you can do this with mopidy mobile. Which I don’t think is
compatible with Musicbox’s current outdated software versions but will be
in the future.
I can’t wait for the new software version. What timeframe are we talking?
