Playlist thumbnails not showing in Iris

Hi everyone,

First of all, thank you for the amazing work on Iris — it’s such a nice interface and I really enjoy using it!

I’ve noticed that the playlist thumbnails don’t display on my setup. The playlists work fine, but the cover images stay empty in the interface.

Has anyone else experienced the same thing? Is there something specific I should check or configure to get the thumbnails working properly?

Any tips or guidance would be very welcome :folded_hands:

Which backend extension are you using? Each extension has to implement images itself, so each one works differently, and some don’t implement it. Mopidy-File doesn’t currently support images, for example.

Sorry for the late reply, and thanks again for your guidance!

Just to clarify: the playlists themselves work fine, but the cover art for each playlist in Iris always stays empty. On my setup I’m running:

  • Mopidy-Iris

  • Mopidy-File

  • Mopidy-Local

  • Mopidy-Local-Images

  • Mopidy-M3U

I also tried adding parameters directly in the .m3u files, like:

#EXTINF:123 logo="cover.jpg"  
#EXTALBUMARTURL:file://cover.jpg

but unfortunately that didn’t make any difference.

From what you explained, I suppose this is because the playlists are using file:// URIs, which don’t provide images. Would switching them to local: URIs (so that Mopidy-Local-Images can handle the artwork) be the right way to get thumbnails showing in Iris?

I think Mopidy-Local is the only one of your backends that currently supports images. It doesn’t look like Mopidy-m3u does, and there’s been a pull request open for a few years to add images to Mopidy-File.

Probably a similar thing would have to be done for Mopidy-m3u.
