Fresh install of latest Raspberry OS with disk imager. Did apt update/upgrade. Connected USB disk and USB Audio device.

Installed Mopidy 4.0.2 based on Debian instructions.

Tried to install mopidy-local and get an error:

> Installing collected packages: typing-extensions, h11, docstring-parser, annotated-types, typing-inspection, pydantic-core, httpcore, anyio, rich-rst, pydantic, httpx, cyclopts, mopidy, mopidy-local

I tried to run the command with ` **`--ignore-installed`** but that resulted in a different error:

Any idea how I can fix this issue?

Running: Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Rev 1.2 with 4GB.

@tschofen Are you referring to the Debian instructions at [Manual install - Mopidy](https://docs.mopidy.com/latest/installation/manual/#extensions)? What are you trying to do: A global install or an install in a virtual environment? It’s difficult to guess from the command output only…

Whatever, the shared output says that `cmake` and `cairo` are not found in the environment.

Did you forget to install the required dependencies as shown in the above documentation?

```auto
$ sudo apt install \
    gir1.2-gst-plugins-base-1.0 \
    gir1.2-gstreamer-1.0 \
    gstreamer1.0-plugins-good \
    gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly \
    gstreamer1.0-tools \
    libcairo2-dev \
    libgirepository-2.0-dev \
    python3-gst-1.0
```

As you can check (eg `apt-cache depends --recurse libcairo2-dev | grep -c cmake`), `cmake` and `cairo` are dependencies and will be present on your system (which version of the OS?) after those dependencies are installed.

I followed the Mopidy [system packages instructions](https://docs.mopidy.com/stable/installation/packages/) for Debian 13 Trixie. Mopidy itself installed without any errors. When I started installing extensions, I was able to install mopidy-iris, but mopidy-local is where the error happens. I haven’t installed anything else on this clean install.

`apt-cache depends --recurse libcairo2-dev | grep -c cmake` returns `68` . I did not install the dependencies you suggested so far. I was hoping the standard install should take care of all that.

`cat /etc/os-release` returns

But Mopidy-Local 4.x requires Mopidy 4.x and the latter is not yet available as Debian package. Thus when you install Mopidy-Local 4.0.x using `pip` then it tries to install Mopidy 4.x which requires `pycairo` whose install fails due to lack of libraries and tooling on the host.

Look for the parents of `pycairo` in the dependency graph:

Install the dependencies. Remove the Mopidy DEB packages. Then installing both Mopidy 4.x and Mopidy-Local 4.x in a virtual environment should work.

Looks like I’m too early in installing Mopidy 4 as mopidy-iris isn’t compatible with it yet. What other web front ends are ready for Mopidy 4?

According to [Provide (alpha) version compatible with Mopidy 4.0.0 alpha versions · Issue #999 · jaedb/Iris · GitHub](https://github.com/jaedb/Iris/issues/999) you’re right Iris doesn’t support Mopidy 4.

For the other frontend, well I feel uncomfortable since I myself found exactly what I was looking for with Argos (not a web frontend), but I’m not at all objective since I wrote it 🙂

I’ll have to look for alternatives, or wait and see as I’m mostly accessing Mopidy from iOS and Mac.

Thank you for your help.

Good news: this got a lot easier in the last few days. The APT archive at [apt.mopidy.com](http://apt.mopidy.com) now has mopidy 4.0.4 and Debian packages for most extensions, including mopidy-local and mopidy-mpd.

That’s great. Now I just need a web client that works with Mopidy 4 and mopidy-local.

Thank you making Mopidy happen.
